After winning the cup the previous spring, ownership wanted to celebrate by having a Stanley Cup logo in a black oval on the players' right shoulder. This only lasted for the preseason as the players requested that they be removed because they felt it made them targets. Depicted below is Bill Barber with one of these patches.
